Teaching

The backbone of the IMPRS-AM curriculum is a series of summer and winter schools on specific topics of multidisciplinary character, as well as a series of seminars by internal and external speakers. The educational effort within the IMPRS-AM has been structured to maximize cross-disciplinary interactions. Instruction is entirely in English. The summer/winter schools will be organized by some of the participants and are closed to topics of particular current interest. Special attention will be given to topics encompassing several of the research themes of interest. The schools usually last one week and involve lectures by international experts (both internal and external). A website with lecture notes and/or copies of the transparencies used by the speakers will be provided for later reference. Each student is required to attend at least two of these schools as a requirement to obtain his/her PhD degree.

During the first years students will be required to attend two of the courses offered by the physics or chemistry departments of the University of Stuttgart.

A short report of progress must be given every 12 months.
